Brad Newsham, impeaching Bush and social change in a cab.

It is easy to meet cool people everyday but it is not everyday that you meet someone who is as earnest, honest and brave as Brad Newsham. If anyone has ever told you that cab/taxi drivers are not worried about issues ranging from global warming to war then this person clearly had not met Brad Newsham. I have never met Brad but remember first hearing about him from my aunt Sarah many years ago, read his book Take Me With You, read about his initiative Backpack Nation and until recently hadn’t heard more about Brad. Then I got an email forwarded by Sarah from Brad about Bodies Count, which you will have to visit and read about to really understand. In an act of solidarity as part of the impeachment movement against “our” president 1,500 of citizens in San Fransisco showed their dislike for the current regime in charge of the White House as part of a larger impeachment movement through groups such as The People’s Impeachment Movement, and Impeach07 with which Bodies Count is affiliated.

All in all I love how Brad who seems to be your typical American (United States Citizen to be more accurate and PC) does such great work and doesn’t let his day job stand in the way. Brad is the example of someone who has decided to continue doing what they do, drive cabs and write books but change the world in their own way at the same time. I hope to dedicate my life, as I have these past years, to serving others and somehow earn a living doing this but there is no reason that we all in what ever we do in life can’t be more active, civic minded, politically involved and caring towards others. If Brad could use his cabbie’s salary to bring a Filipino to the US, who had been such a gracious host to Brad when he was in the Phillipines, just to show him his home and take him around the States then there is no reason we all can’t do more for others each day.
