Justice in Brazil. The man who arranged for the murder of Sister Dorothy Stang gets a tough but right sentence.

A little over two years after Sister Dorothy Stang's brutal murder in rural Brazil the man who ordered her to be shot a point blank range received a 30 year prison sentence. I remember hearing about her murder in February of 2005 and now that I am in Brazil this story is closer to home for me especially as Sister Stang was working in the Amazon protecting the forest and the small land owners living in the area.

Binka, one of Iracambi's founders and directors was at this trial in Belem, being invited by Sister Stang's compatriots, and it was through her and her husband Robin that I first heard the news. I have found a few sources so that you can read more about her murder and trial. I sure hope this leads others who would think to do such a terrible thing as the assassination of a person who dedicated her life to social justice to think twice.
